Claire Monroe, NSW, Australia
Sunday, November 29, 2009 at 1:01PM I spent two photo sessions with this piece and am still not happy with the images. They don't do the silky, soft pods justice. Claire writes:
I live in Sydney, Australia. I work as a software consultant and I claim that my collection of fabric and yarn helps insulate our home. I experiment a lot with textiles but I'm not terribly good at actually producing anything.
I was intrigued by the possibility of creating pod-like shapes using knitting or crochet. After a number of tries I settled on a crochet method which produced a good organic shape and didn't take too much brain-power or time to execute. The soft pudginess of the pods is pleasing: I'd quite happily curl up in a nest of them.
This yarn is Alpaca by Bendigo woolen mills, the pod stuffing is tencel top from Ecoyarns. The tencel top is anchored into the pods through the centre of each tuft.
Wonderful work, Claire. Thank you!
